I am new here. I have been looking at quite a few small tractors. I came across a 99 model JD855 two wheel drive with 300 hours. It also includes a kingkutter finish mower. Hydrostatic transmission. Tractor is in excellent shape and looks close to new. As far as I know, it has only been used to pull the finish mower.

I am looking for a small tractor to mainly finish mow myself. Although I would not mind installing a FEL later.

Anyways, the guy is wanting $8000 for the setup and would like your opinions.

I also need to ask what is the availability of accessories to this tractor? Especially a FEL, jd brand or aftermarket.

usaf... Unless you have a large yard 2-3 acres or more what you are looking at should do fine. Loaders (Green) are around $1500-$2000 dealer installed. Also gonna depend if the valve is already installed or not.

Little Green tractors will hold their value real well so you will not get hurt later if you trade.

I have about 4 acres I will be mowing. I guess I am more worried about the hp rating of this tractor. It will probably get a post hole digger and light fel work might also be thrown at it. 4wd would be nice, but I have had a two wheel drive in some pretty rough areas and it seemed to do ok. I did a search on the internet and there seem to be alot of JD 855 going for around $10,000. I also got a chance to look at a tractor value book the dealer has. It showed the trade-in value on this tractor was around $9,000.

I also looked at some NH models. Since they have have a 0% for 36 months, I can get a 24 HP model for only about $1500 more but in a manual tranny.

I have an 855. Excellent tractors. No HP problem with up to 6ft mower deck.
For FEL work, 4wd is essential! Even with nothing in the bucket, but the loader installed, I need 4wd to back up any kind of slope(no rear weight) I add rear weight, and I'm fine without load, but no traction with a load in the bucket.
FEL = 4wd. You would be unhappy any other way.

I can sell my tractor for more than I bought it for 5 years ago. Look after it and resale will be good. ....
